As the Explorers Day Program, located in Lakewood, approaches the spring season, we have a lot to look forward to as well as a lot to be proud of. The Explorers program currently serves approximately 68 participants, with 10 extremely dedicated staff. Our program works with adults 18+ with developmental disabilities and focuses on promoting an independent, social lifestyle with specific goals for each of our participants to work on and continue to grow. The Explorer’s program prides ourselves in being person centered, offering several choices of activities each day so that all participants are able to do something that they enjoy on a daily basis. Some of the activities that we’re fortunate to be involved in include music therapy, yoga, rock climbing, museum tours, volunteering, exploring nature, and much more. Although we have several participants in our program, they have all seemingly found a comfort zone within the program and have built relationships that will last a lifetime.
“I love seeing our clients each day and seeing how excited they are to come to day program, as most of them describe it as the best part of their week. Watching them grow and build new friendships is one of my favorite things about coming to work every day.”Betsy Bauchmann, Day Program Manager
“I love everything about coming to day program. My group has become like a family and we always help each other out and look out for one another. I used to be very shy, but coming to Easterseals has helped me to come out of my shell. I also love going on hikes and being outside during the nice weather”Kim D., City Trekkers Community Group, together for 5 years.
